Deputy Chief Tara Edmonson oversees the Investigations Division, which includes: Detectives, HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area), HOPE (Homeless Outreach Proactive Engagement) Team, Neighborhood Police Unit, Northern Nevada Repeat Offender Program (ROP), Professional Standards Unit, Property and Evidence, Regional Crime Suppression Unit, Regional Gang Unit, Regional Narcotics Unit, Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit, Support Services, and Victim Services Unit.
DC Edmonson began her career with the Sparks Police Department in March 2003. Throughout her tenure, she has served in various capacities, including roles in Patrol, Detectives, Project Development, and Special Events. Deputy Chief Edmonson has also been actively involved in the department’s recruitment, hiring processes, and the field training program for new officers. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Public and Criminal Justice Administration degree from Columbia Southern University. In June 2022, she completed the 82nd session of the Senior Management Institute for Policing (SMIP) and, in December 2023, graduated from the 288th Session of the FBI National Academy.
