Councilmember Donald Abbott

Donald Abbott 2024 Headshot 8 x 10 cropCouncilmember Donald Abbott was elected to the Sparks City Council for his first term in November 2016 and was reelected in November 2020 and November 2024. He is the first millennial and the youngest person to serve on the Sparks City Council, and served as Mayor Pro Tempore from December 2022 through January 2025.

A lifelong Sparks resident, Donald graduated with honors from Sparks High School in 2008 before attending Truckee Meadows Community College, where he earned dual degrees in renewable energy and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. He began his career in HVAC while still in high school and later returned to teach HVAC courses at Truckee Meadows Community College. Donald owns and operates AbbottOgraphy and has also served as a substitute teacher for the Washoe County School District, including at his alma mater, Sparks High School.

An avid history enthusiast, Donald serves on the board of the Sparks Heritage Museum and is an active community volunteer with 39 North, where he volunteers his photography. He previously served on the Sparks Citizens Advisory Committee and is passionate about supporting seniors, helping to launch the Sparks Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, which has now merged with the Sparks Citizens Advisory Committee. He is also proud to be the President of the Sparks High School Alumni Foundation, where he enjoys giving back to the Brickhouse and his fellow Railroaders!
