Purpose:
The SCAC exists to provide essential citizen input to the City Council and to engage and promote volunteerism in the City of Sparks.
The SCAC is to perform in a positive and collaborative manner to gather information and provide constructive feedback and suggestions to the Mayor and the City Council of Sparks on City programs, initiatives, and any matter referred to the SCAC by the City Council.
While the SCAC periodically receives updates from City departments and divisions, it acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council and shall not advise or otherwise engage in matters regarding political races or other matters deemed inappropriate by the City Council.
Meeting Schedule: The SCAC Chair, in coordination with City staff, will determine the meeting schedule. The committee meets as needed at the Sparks Legislative Building, 745 4th Street, Sparks.
Governing Authority: City of Sparks Resolution No. 3461
Appointing Authority: Mayor and Council
Number of Appointees: A total of seven members make up the SCAC—one member from each of the five wards, and two members appointed by the mayor.
Qualifications: Members shall be residents of the City of Sparks, representing diverse perspectives, to include high school students, Senior Citizens, artists, and anyone who has a desire to learn more about City government and a willingness to share their collective knowledge with others.
